Weather on the Gold Coast ~A Complete Season-by-Season Guide.

Queensland's Gold Coast is widely known for its fantastic weather and year-round sunshine, it's one of the key reasons many choose to make the move to the Gold Coast. The city has a sub-tropical climate and on average experiences 300 days of sunshine a year, making it a great place to visit and live. However, just like any other place, the Gold Coast experiences seasonal weather changes including tropical storms with heavy rains, windy days and extreme humidity.

What's the weather like on the Gold Coast and how does it compare to other areas of Australia?

Summer on the Gold Coast (December - February)

Summer is the hottest and most humid season on the Gold Coast, with an average maximum temperature of 28°C and a minimum temperature of 21°C. The humidity levels can be quite high, as high as 75 percent, making it feel hotter than it actually is. During this time of year, the city experiences tropical storms in the form of short heavy bursts of rainfall. If you're looking to escape from the heat the sea breezes and a dip in the ocean provide cool relief.


In comparison, Sydney experiences an average maximum temperature of 26°C and a minimum temperature of 19°C and like the Gold Coast, Sydney experiences high humidity with spikes up to 65%. Melbourne, on the other hand, has an average maximum temperature of 25°C and a minimum temperature of 14°C but on occasion swelters through days with temperatures in the high 30s. Tasmania is much cooler than the Gold Coast, with an average maximum temperature of 21°C and a minimum temperature of 12°C. Perth, located in Western Australia, has an average maximum temperature of 31°C and a minimum temperature of 18°C during summer.


Autumn on the Gold Coast (March - May)

Autumn on the Gold Coast is generally warm and pleasant, with an average maximum temperature of 26°C and a minimum temperature of 17°C. The humidity levels decrease during this time, and it is generally less rainy than the summer months, making it more comfortable to spend time outdoors. The sea temperature also remains warm (up to 25°C), making it an ideal time to enjoy water-based activities.


In Sydney, autumn is slightly cooler than the Gold Coast, with an average maximum temperature of 23°C and a minimum temperature of 15°C. Melbourne experiences an average maximum temperature of 20°C and a minimum temperature of 10°C during the autumn months. Tasmania is much cooler during this time, with an average maximum temperature of 16°C and a minimum temperature of 7°C. Perth is still warm during autumn, with an average maximum temperature of 27°C and a minimum temperature of 15°C.

Winter on the Gold Coast (June - August)

Winter on the Gold Coast is mild and dry, with an average maximum temperature of 21°C and a minimum temperature of 12°C. The weather is usually sunny and pleasant, making it a great time to explore the city and its surrounding areas. Although it is the coolest season, it is still warm enough to enjoy outdoor activities.


In comparison, Sydney experiences an average maximum temperature of 17°C and a minimum temperature of 9°C during winter. Melbourne, on the other hand, is much cooler than the Gold Coast, with an average maximum temperature of 14°C and a minimum temperature of 6°C and nights can be accompanied by frost. Tasmania is the coldest of all the cities mentioned, with an average maximum temperature of 12°C and a minimum temperature of 3°C with snow and frost at times. Perth, located in the west of the country, is still warm during winter, with an average maximum temperature of 19°C and a minimum temperature of 9°C and occasional storms with big downpours of rain and thunderstorms.


Spring on the Gold Coast (September - November)

Spring on the Gold Coast is warm and pleasant, with an average maximum temperature of 25°C and a minimum temperature of 17°C. The days are sunny and dry, but can be windy, especially during the month of September. The sea temperature starts to warm up, making it a great time to enjoy the water-based activities.


Sydney experiences an average maximum temperature of 23°C and a minimum temperature of 14°C during spring. Melbourne starts to warm up during spring, but the weather can be unpredictable and change from calm and sunny to cold and windy quickly. The average maximum temperature of 19°C and a minimum temperature of 9°C. Spring is the windiest time of year in Tasmania and temperatures range from 7°C to a maximum of 19°C in coastal areas. Snowfall is still common until October. In Perth on the other hand the days are warm and dry, with an average maximum temperature of 23°C and a minimum temperature of 12°.
